Preparing for the great flood

T-Rex has grown into a goofy tween — a very tall, skinny, goofy tween. He’s shot up at least 2 inches since late summer (when I bought him new jeans, naturally) and now his jeans are so very short. Over the weekend he said, “Mom, Drama Girl says my pants are too short.” I replied, “Yes. They are.” He didn’t believe me.

Son, when you see a large band of white sock between where your sneaks start and your pants end, your pants are too short.

We’re having a really hard time finding jeans in a boy’s size in long length, so we might have to either move up two sizes and cinch his waist with a rope or try a super skinny-small men’s size. If anyone has suggestions, let me know.

Otherwise, I can take comfort knowing T-Rex will be prepared for high waters.

  1. Jodi says:

Old Navy has kids’ jeans in “tall,” if that helps. I think they’re mostly skinny jeans, but if he’s super skinny, that probably works fine. I know my nephew’s been able to wear them and they don’t look too skinny or anything on him. Levi’s brand at Macy’s has been okay too, generally, as has H & M. My sister says she’s also able to find Wrangler jeans for him frequently that are adjustable in the waistband inside with “secret” elastic at Target. And if all else fails, try looking for “tall” or “slim” online at Children’s Place, L.L. Bean, or Crazy 8’s.

  2. Thanks, Jodi. I hadn’t thought of 2 of your suggestions, so those are worth checking out and re-examining the skinny options. Otherwise, it looks like we may have to move up a size and introduce him to the concept of wearing a belt, which I hope will be more successful than our attempts at introducing other things like showering and not eating like Wile E. Coyote!
